Detroit Guide • March Edition • Brush Park

Since I just moved to Brush Park at the beginning of the year, I thought this would be the perfect time to highlight some of my favorite places in the neighborhood! Brush Park is easily considered one of Detroit’s most iconic neighborhoods with historic Victorian homes and the perfect location between downtown and midtown. I can’t wait to see this neighborhood evolve over time.

One of the best parts of this location is that you can walk to almost everything you might need. Check out my top 3 favorite places to visit in Brush Park, below:

  1. Grey Ghost

Inside Grey Ghost (above).

Situated at 47 Watson Street, the name Grey Ghost is a nod to the alias of the most notorious rum-running pirate on the Detroit River during the Prohibition era. The legend of this ghost lives on here at what has become a #1 food destination and local favorite. This spot opened in 2017 and has the BEST happy hour, but it’s also perfect for brunch, date nights, and everything in between.

I love that they feature mocktails alongside a strong list of unique boozy drinks on their cocktail menu. Plus, their food menu is guaranteed to have something for everyone—the burger is a notorious crowd pleaser, but my personal favorites are the mushroom ravioli and arugula salad! You also HAVE to check out their brunch menu that’s available on Sundays (they have cronuts!).

2. New Order

Inside New Order (above).

New Order is a small batch coffee roaster that’s located right next to Grey Ghost in Brush Park. They also just opened a second location in Royal Oak. I love the serene color palette here, and it’s a great place to get some work done or meet a client. The lavender latte is my guilty pleasure—it’s to die for! You can find both a great cup of coffee or something to please your sweet tooth too with a menu of drinks that feature homemade marshmallows, cereal milk, and sprinkles!

3. Chili Mustard Onions

Order the “Big Moc” - it’s even better than the real thing (above).

Chili Mustard Onions is known as Detroit’s original vegan coney island — yes, you read that right! VEGAN.CONEY.ISLAND! This is a super fun, unique concept with healthy alternatives to Motown classics, and a great place to take visitors. Everything is delicious and fresh, and the meat alternatives are so good — you won't believe that the vegan cheese and sauces are vegan. Whatever your diet restrictions are, vegan, vegetarian and meat eat eaters will all find something to love here.

I would love to hear if you try any of these places, so tag or message me on Instagram @meeterica and let me know what you think! Or email me to setup a time for us to meet for a Big Moc! Hope you all have a fantastic month of March, and stay tuned for next month’s City Guide post :)
