Container gardens are an easy way to add some greenery (and joy) to your home.

This month, amid the chaos of the world, I’m all about finding easy ways to make my home feel EXTRA relaxing and calm. House plants are an affordable and really fun way to add some life into your space, plus there are dozens of plants that can improve your home’s air quality, too! I love how a bit of greenery can completely change the look of a space, and I’m learning I have a greener thumb than I thought. Maybe I’ll even start sharing garden tips soon!? (Don’t get your hopes up ;) ….)

I even found a local Detroit shop called Bloomscape with an amazing selection of plants online and they will ship everything you need right to your door! My best advice when hunting for house plants is to walk through your home and decide where you see a plant living or find the spot with the best natural light, then choose a bright light or low light plant depending upon the spots you picked. Many online sites and garden shops are arranged by plant type or light level, so as long as you know what type of lighting you have then you can narrow down your search from there.

My next mission is to plant some herbs and tomatoes on my patio, until then, check out some of my favorite house plants below:

SNAKE PLANT

Perfect for a modern or hippy vibe—this plant is low maintenance and thrives in both bright sun or shadier corners; and is often used in mid-century modern designs.

BIRD OF PARADISE

Tropical and full of personality! These beauties thrive off bright sunlight, but also work in partially lit rooms, too, just be sure to rotate it near the sun regularly.

Monstera

MONSTERA

I love the large tropical leaves and the fact that sometimes it’s called the Swiss Cheese…it works in low to bright light and comes in a variety of size options.

FIDDLE LEAF FIG

These bad boys get tall and need tons of bright, direct light. Tall and sculptural, they’re always found in West Elm ads and known to be fussy.

I hope this inspires you to get some green children of your own! I’d love to see how you style plants in your own home, so tag me on Instagram @meeterica and show me. Stay safe and healthy, guys! XOXO -Erica
